What to expect on a Sunday

Our Sunday service begins at 10:55. All are welcome! Feel free to come dressed as you like, some people wear jeans and a polo, some people like to wear slacks and a tie. Our service has traditional hymns and one contemporary song. The music is vibrant and worshipful. We have piano & acoustic guitar with a couple of singers. We also have Prayer, Bible readings from the Old and New Testament, and an engaging & authentic sermon that you can apply to your life. Once a month we celebrate Communion together. At 9:45 we have Bible studies available for all ages and a nursery.

Brenden Lawson, Pastor

 
Brenden has been the pastor at Stevens since May of 2026. He is passionate about seeking the Lord’s vision for the church as well as preaching the word and reaching the community for Christ. He has worked in full time ministry for over 20 years. He is a big movie nerd and loves writing music on guitar and piano. His wife, Jaime is a speech pathologist at New Horizons in Newport News and they have two children, Connor and Sadie.
 
 
Sarah Eureka, Administrative Assistant
 
Sarah has been with Stevens Memorial Baptist Church since April 2024. Her husband is currently serving in the Navy. They moved to Newport News in June 2023. Sarah has worked as an administrative assistant at two other churches prior to SMBC. Our deacons recognize the authority of God, and realize that we are shepherds who serve under the Chief Shepherd, Jesus Christ. We desire to devote ourselves to prayer, to our family ministry,  and to the ministry of the Word. Our passion and goal is to equip the believers for the work of the ministry until we all attain maturity in the fullness of Christ.

 
 

Our Mission & Vision

The mission of Stevens Memorial Baptist Church is to love God, to love others, and to magnify the name of Jesus Christ. The vision of our church is to glorify our God and Savior, Jesus Christ, to make true disciples throughout all the nations by means of missionary activity and support, to minister the ordinances (baptism and communion), to edify believers, and to do all that is sovereignty possible and Biblically permissible to magnify the name of Jesus.
